MOPS Information for VAVA students
NOTE: Info is provided is for ease of use and convenience ONLY and may have changed since posted. Always check with the provider directly for the most up to date information. A link to the VA DOE site of MOPS providers is included above.
For students interested in taking courses outside of VAVA, or a foreign language course we do not offer, students are to take courses through a MOPS provider. MOPS providers are Multi Division Online Providers, who the VDOE approves their courses to be used to transfer to a K-12 school. SOL courses are not to be taken through MOPS providers to avoid potential graduation delays. Also, please note there is a cost associated with MOPS courses that can range upwards from $200. This cost is the responsibility of the family.
How do they work?
1. Express interest to your school counselor. What graduation requirement needs to be filled? Electives? Foreign language?
2. Look at the MOPS provider list to find a course that interests you:

3. Send the course link to your counselor to ensure the course will transfer. Your course has to be approved by your school counselor. If you take a course without approval from your VAVA school counselor, it cannot transfer.
4. Register and pay for course.
5. Complete course and send transcript to counselor for graduation plan to be updated.

Multidivision Online Provider Program (MOP)
VDOE offers a program for Multidivision Online Providers (MOP). The Code of Virginia at § 22.1-212.23 et seq, allows school divisions to offer online instruction to students using a private organization, educational institution or nonprofit virtual school organization that meets Board of Education approval criteria to operate as a MOP.
MOPs supply virtual teachers coupled with online content to K-12 students. Providers may offer one course or a full array of courses as an online course or program provider contracted with a local school division. The online query tool provides a list of approved MOP and a list of the approved courses.
